SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. - Joseph Edward Poirier Sr., aged 91 years, passed away peacefully, on December 13, 2017.
Joseph was born November 7, 1926, in Rockport, Mass., he was the son of: Anne (Sheehan) Poirier and Jean Baptiste Poirier (now deceased).
After attending and graduating from Rockport public schools, he proudly joined the United States Navy having served in WWII and Korea, and was awarded for his meritorious service.
Returning home to family, he worked for General Electric, attended Wentworth University, Northeastern University and received a degree in Electrical Engineering.
In 1965, Joseph was one of the founders of Information Dynamics Corporation, which was dedicated to cataloging information for long term storage. Examples of this were Army Personnel Division - Ft Benjamin Harrison, Ind., Boston University - Library System, and NASA.
Turning his services toward the construction industry in 1975, Joseph began working for Anderson Nichols Corporation as a Professional Engineer. Noted projects that were managed included Digital Corp. and the implementation of Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. Having survived the acquisition of ANC, by Dewberry Davis Group, he retired as Vice President.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Flynn) Poirier; his sons and their wives, Joseph E Poirier (Jane) and Thomas F. Poirier (Allison); and a daughter, Kimberly Poirier. He will be sadly missed by his grandchild, Lani (Poirier) Heath; and his two great-grandchildren, Maya and Lelia Heath.
Joseph will also be dearly missed by nieces, Catherine Batsie, Mary Kent, Elizabeth Rosenstiel, Anne Norris, Meghan Poirier, and their extended families.
Aside from his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Jean B. Poirier; a grandson, Paul F. Poirier; a former spouse, Mary (Molloy) Horton; and his in-laws, Mildred and Henry Flynn, formerly of Wakefield, Mass.
A funeral Mass at Holy Family Parish - St Joachim Church and interment at Beechbrook Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
