Josephine's Story

Text size

Mrs. Josephine (Lumbruno) Buotte, 86, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a decline in health. Josephine was born on October 17, 1930, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late William and Nancy (Sabella) Lumbruno. She loved being a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School. Josephine worked as a waitress at the Gloucester House for over 40 years, until her retirement in 2006. She considered her coworkers and the Linquata family to be her second family. She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church. She loved music, singing, dancing, watching football and golf with her son-in-law, and animals, especially her daughter's dog, Foxy. Her family was the center of her life, and her children and grandchildren were her first priority. She was an amazing cook, and no one ever left her house hungry. Josephine always welcomed everyone into her home and made an extra place at her table. She especially enjoyed sharing the holidays and Fiesta with her family and friends. She also loved traveling, and cherished her time in Key West with her son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Carolyn, whom she cherished like one of her own. She recently took a trip of a lifetime to California, where she toured vineyards, visited Disneyland, and spent time with her son, Peter, daughter-in-law, Karla, granddaughters, Abby and Sophie, and Karla’s wonderful family.
Josephine is survived by her loving children, Nancy (Buotte) Fernandes and her husband, Joe of Gloucester, Mark Buotte and his wife, Carolyn of Key West, Fla., Peter Buotte and his wife, Karla of Porterville, Calif., and Gerald Buotte, Jr. of Gloucester; her brothers, George and his wife, Grace Lumbruno of Gloucester, Consti Lumbruno of Cape May, N.J., and William "Bill" and his wife, Susan Lumbruno of Gloucester; her six grandchildren, Alyssa Gigliotti and her husband, James, Marc Buotte and his fiancé, Caitlin Hamilton, Matthew Fernandes, Brianna Fernandes, Abby Buotte, and Sophie Buotte; her great-grandsons, Tripp and Bo Buotte; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who were like sisters.
Josephine's family would like to thank the staff at the Kaplan Family Hospice House for their love and care.
Josephine’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Prospect St., Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
