Joyce M. Vestal
She was born in Gloucester on May 16, 1931, daughter of the late Ralph and Mabel (Dorey) Esty. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School. She loved to be busy, having worked as a crossing guard at Veteran’s Memorial School, the Gloucester Police Department as a matron and later at the Addison Gilbert Hospital as a nurse’s aide in the maternity ward. So many people remember her as the lady who was with them on the maternity ward when they had their babies.
She loved traveling with her husband all over the U.S. in their motor home and boating with her special friends. She enjoyed reading a good book, knitting and crocheting, playing bingo and going out with her friends. Joyce loved when people would just drop by for coffee and conversation. She also had quite the green thumb and took great pride in her orchids and Christmas Cacti.
Joyce was a member of the Gloucester Fraternity Club Ladies Auxiliary, Past President and was on the crowning committee as well.
Family was very important to her. Joyce and her husband Jack would host a Christmas gathering every year for all family members. The event got so big they had to move it to a hall. It certainly was something she love and looked forward to every year.
She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and loved to spend as much time with them as possible loving them up with lots of hugs. Her other special love was her canine companion Ming. All who knew and loved her will miss her.
She is survived by her three devoted children, sons, Stephen Muise and his wife Christine of Essex, Michael Vestal and his wife Jean of North Carolina, and her daughter, Audrey Brancaleone and her husband Giuseppe of Gloucester; nine grandchildren, Michael Vestal and his wife Mary Grace, Lisa Bernstein and her husband Matt, Jarrod Vestal and his wife Heidi, April Cobb and her husband Caleb, Jennifer Monroe and her husband Joshua, Elizabeth Vestal and her fiancé Daniel James, Alyssa Harris and her husband Grant, Amanda Cotter and her husband Anthony, Giuseppe Brancaleone Jr. and his wife, Rebecca; 12 great-grandchildren, Mia, Marissa and Michael Vestal, Lyla and Charlotte Bernstein, Annie Vestal, Brandon and Ethan Cobb, Emmett Munroe, Gavin and Averie Harris and Leah Cotter; her brother, Ronald Esty and his wife Kathy of Gloucester.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Saturday, December 29, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A visitation will be held prior to the Mass on Saturday in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
