Linda's Story

Driscoll, Linda Maria (Steele), of Reading, formerly of Gloucester, passed away Friday, October 13, after a long, courageous, hard-fought six and half year battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of devoted husband, Francis P. Driscoll of Reading and cherished mother of Stacie Anne (Driscoll) Hall, her husband, Michael C. of Exeter, N.H. and Caitlin Elizabeth (Driscoll) Salmon, her husband, Matthew M. of Reading. She was the doting, affectionate, grandmother of Jake Mitchell Hall (14) and Kyrie Cheyenne Hall (13) of Exeter, N.H. and Keeley Grace-Elizabeth Salmon (7) and Jameson Patrick (Simmy) Salmon (5) of Reading.
Linda grew up in her beloved city of Gloucester, the cherished daughter of the late Donald P. (Simmy) Steele and Ida (Betty) Elizabeth (Kinsella) Steele. She was the loving sister of Bonnie A. Bedell and her former husband Toby, David Scott Steele, Donald P. Steele, Jr., and Lisa I. Puma and her husband Phillip, all of Gloucester. The Steele Children were well-known and loved around Gloucester by many friends and extended family.
After attending Bay State Junior College, Linda worked at The Cabot Corporation where she met Frank, and married him in 1971. The Driscoll Family embraced her immediately. The late Jean C. (Sullivan), was her loving mother-in-law, she gained a friend in her late sister-in-law, Mary Grace Doucette, wife of Paul, working together for many years at Wakefield Medical Associates. She also leaves cherished brother-in-law, John (Jack) Driscoll and wife Nancy of North Andover and adored sister-in-law, Cathleen (Driscoll) Bilodeau and her husband, Robert of Hampton, N.H.
Family was an important part of Linda's life, she leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews from both sides of her family. Including Kevin and Avril (Hevey) Doucette, and their children, Chloe and Shay, Karin Doucette, Joshua Bilodeau, Matthew Steele, Andrew and Jennifer Steele and their children, Eleanor and Edith, and Emily Megan (Steele) Brown. She was predeceased by Alicia Gay Steele and Justin P. Steele. She also leaves behind dear friend, Patricia A. Austin.

An avid reader, voracious knitter, die-hard Sox fan, beach worshipper, "Ellen" loving fan of watching her family participate in activities they enjoyed, she will be missed by everyone touched by her effervescent smile.
Linda Steele Driscoll's family asks that you spend time with your family, enjoy the beach with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships with a tall vodka and tonic with a lemon. That is what Linda would wish for all of you.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 19 at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial is private. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, October 18 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading from 4 to 8 p.m.
