Lois Day, wife of Walter Day, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on September 20th, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Roy B. and Mary (Sweet) Peavey.
Lois was born and raised in Gloucester, Mass., where she attended public schools and lived until she met the love her life and husband, Walter. They moved their family to Vinalhaven, Maine where they began their very successful lobstering business aboard F/V Night Moves. We are very proud of Lois and her accomplishments in life which, in addition to running the family business, include working with Elder Care, becoming a licensed massage therapist, and working as a home health aid. Lois loved being outdoors, and could always be found happily working in her many beautiful gardens around her home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Christine and Toni-Lee Mondello; her stepchildren, Jason Day and wife Sheri, Jada and husband, Mark Bottiglieri, and Avery Day and wife, Sarah; grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Mondello, Alexander and Gabriel Day, Marina, Mathew, James, Andrew and Dominic Bottiglieri and Barbara and Henley Day; two sisters, Deborah Peavey and Nancy Peavey; two brothers, Roy B. Peavey and Don A., husband of Leslie (Watson) Peavey; sisters-in-law, Amy (Pittenger) Peavey and Cheryl Day; brother-in-law, Robert Nelson; an aunt, Nina Sweet; mother-in-law, Ethelyn Day; nieces and nephews, James Silva, Tammy Walsh, Nicole Howard, Amy Kovach, Jaimie Klopotoski, Timothy Fulford, Brandon Peavey, and Olivia Peavey; and many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Jane Nelson; her brother, Robert Peavey; her father-in-law, Henley Day; and brother-in-law, Douglas Day.
Lois also leaves behind her pets, Lola and Ace. Her beloved dog, Cole, waits for her at the "rainbow bridge."
Lois was very dedicated to her island home of Gloucester and the many friends she had here.
At Lois' request, there will be no visiting hours or services. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Lois' memory may be made to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester.
