Essex, MA - Madeline E. (Francione) Dudley, 98, of Essex, died April 7, 2019, peacefully at her home in Essex after a long illness, surrounded by family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Benjamin A. Dudley. She leaves her children, Roy Dudley of San Angelo, Texas, Christine Dudley of North Kingstown, R.I., and Nancy Dudley of Essex; 4 grandchildren Erin Dudley, Morgan Dudley, Christopher Mortimer, Sarah Frey and her husband Frank;3 great-grandchildren, Jason, Riley, and Kaitlyn Frey; and many nieces and nephews.
She was born in Marlborough, daughter of the late Tomasso Francione and Grazia (Sabetta) Francione, who came from Roccadaspide, Italy. She grew up in Marlborough with family and friends on Bolton Street and graduated from Marlborough High in 1938. She studied voice, graduated from Becker College and earned a law degree from Suffolk University in 1946. She was married in 1946 and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar Association in 1947.
She was a soprano soloist for weddings, worked at John Hancock Insurance, and was an assistant to attorney Ray Barrett in Boston; she worked at Mitre Corporation and taught school in Hudson and Harvard, Mass. In the 1970s she was an attorney at Bowditch and Dewey in Worcester.
She and Ben lived in Stow for many years. She was a member of the Planning Board, Garden Club, and Nashoba Valley Mineralogical Society. She loved dogs and cats; enjoyed sewing, baking, debating, and road trips to the Southwest. She made many life-long friends around the country in the years she and Ben spent in Maryland, Texas, Florida, and Essex; where she spent the last 15 years.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Assunta Bufalieri, Anna Forcier, Josephine Sinacole, brother John Francione; and her daughter-in-law Loy Dudley.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 13 at 10 a.m. in the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Stow.
A calling hour will be held prior to services from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.
