Margaret C. Guittarr Gloucester - Margaret “Peggy” (Tarr) Guittarr, 93, of Gloucester, wife of the late Roy Guittarr passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday morning, August 3, 2018 at the Den Mar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rockport, Massachusetts.
She was born in Gloucester on September 2, 1924, daughter of the late Richard and Helen (Smith) Tarr.
Margaret was a graduate of Gloucester High School. Following High School, and after Roy returned from WWII, Peggy and Roy made their life and raised their family in various parts of Cape Ann. Peggy will be remembered for her positive spirit, appreciation of arts and crafts and passionate stories from her travels to Europe, the Caribbean and around the U.S. Peggy also knew the game of golf quite well and enjoyed many simple afternoons at home on the sofa with Roy cheering on their favorite PGA players. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Mitchell and her husband Joe of Gloucester; her son, Dennis Guittarr and his wife Candace of Plymouth. She was predeceased by her son, Glenn who was lost on the F/V Alligator in 1978.
Peggy had five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Joe Mitchell and Carrie Kwok of New York, Jonathan and Alexandra Mitchell of Gloucester and their children, Eliza and Gabriel, Jason and Josephine Mitchell of Gloucester, Lindsay and Shane Bohan of Duxbury and their children, Jack and Ava, Patrick and Courtney Bruen of Duxbury.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall with family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer Association of Eastern Massachusetts, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or to Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
