Marion's Story

Mrs. Marion R. (Jernberg) Lane, 89, of Gloucester passed away on Monday morning, December 4, 2017, in Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Clarence E. "Laney" Lane, Jr. with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
Marion was born July 27, 1928 in Quincy, Mass. She is the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Holland) Jernberg. She resided in Gloucester for most of her life previously residing in Manchester and Quincy.
Marion met Laney while they were both working at United Shoe in Beverly. After raising her family, Marion worked for the Cape Ann Savings Bank answering the phone as well as working in the Safety Deposit Box Department. She previously worked for US Trust.
Marion will be remembered for her warm smile and sense of humor. She enjoyed dancing with Laney and friends on Saturday nights. Marion also enjoyed playing board games, cards, traveling and socializing with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Lois Wheaton and her husband, Chuck, Diane Amero and her husband, Don, all of Gloucester, Steven Lane and his wife, Sandra of Virginia, Douglas Lane of Gloucester and Judy Francis and her husband, Domenic of Gloucester. She is also survived by her cherished eight grandchildren, Kerry Lewis, Jesse Francis, Sara Francis, Julia Lane, Dylan Lane, Sophia Lane, Amanda Wheaton and Ashley Wheaton. Her two great-grandchildren, Reagan Lewis and Carson Lewis; her sister-in-law, Shirley Cecilio of Beverly; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Lois Perkins.
Marion's Funeral Service will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. In lieu of flowers donations in Marion's memory may be made to the Friends at Seacoast 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
