Marion's Story

ROCKPORT: Marion D. (Durkee) Stillman, 90, wife of the late Donald B. Stillman, of Rockport, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Golden Living Center.

Born in Rutland, Vt., on June 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Oretha (Rankin) Durkee.

Marion was the President of her Whitcomb High School Senior Class in Bethel, Vermont and a graduate of Middlebury College with the class of 1947. She had met her husband, Donald, at a Middlebury Alumni event.

Marion taught Home Economics at Wayland High School from 1970 until her retirement in 1985.

After moving to Rockport, she became active in the community and was a member of the Garden Club, Book Club and Exercise Club. She was also a member of the First Congregational Church and enjoyed their pot luck suppers.

She is survived by her three children, David Stillman and wife Mary of Rockport, Peter Stillman and wife, Robin of Coronado, Calif.; and their children, Lindsay and Sarah, Linda Kastan and husband, Mark of Charlottesville, Va. and their children, James and Hannah; several nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Smooch.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Allen Durkee.

A memorial service will be held in the First Congregational Church, Rockport on Sunday, November 8th at 2 p.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held privately. Contributions may be made in her name to the First Congregational Church of Rockport’s Living Memorial Fund, 12 School St., Rockport, MA 01966.
