GLOUCESTER: Marjorie Grace (Barnes) Carlson, 78, of Gloucester passed away at home on Saturday, August 22, 2015, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Frederick R. Carlson.
Margie was born November 3, 1936, in Gloucester, and was the daughter of the late Lemuel H. and Louise Harriett (McGrath) Barnes. She attended Gloucester Public Schools.
Margie previously resided in Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Maine and Florida.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt R. and Patricia (Aceves) Carlson; daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. and Robert Scola; six grandchildren, Jonathan Carlson, Shelby and Nicole Scola, and Gabriel, Benjamin and Amanda Carlson; one sister, Carol Begg-Martell of Bishopville, S.C. She is also survived by her devoted friends, Sue and Digger Frantzen of Englewood, Fla.; and a very special niece, Pam Begg-Digiovanni of Bishopville, S.C. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Edward, George, and Robert Hardy, Marie Frontiero, Harold, Richard and Thomas Barnes, Barbara Agostini, Patricia Reed, Roberta Barnes, Danny Barnes, Donald Barnes, and Sherryl Barnes.
Margie’s Memorial Service will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be Saturday, from 9 a.m. Interment will be in Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester. The family requests that in remembrance of Margie’s bubbly spirit that casual, colorful clothing be worn. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations in Margie’s memory to be made to The Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
