GLOUCESTER- Mark S. Kennefick, 69, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, January 24, 2018 at his residence.
He was born in Gloucester on February 13, 1948, son of Margaret (Wonson) Kennefick and the late Russell Kennefick.
Mark was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1966. He also was a graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and Salem State University with a Master's degree in Education.
During High School, he was a Lt. Commander in the ROTC. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mark was employed for many years with the Gloucester school system as the principal for Beeman and Plum Cove schools.
He very much enjoyed a good game of golf and relaxing at the beach. In his spare time, he volunteered at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Mark was a longtime member of the Gloucester Elks Lodge #892. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Jared Kennefick of Melrose; three daughters, Jennifer Roberts and her husband, Duane, Alissa Herrick and her husband, Charles all of Gloucester and Laura Ulmer of Panama City Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Joshua, Dylan and Logan Roberts, Zachary, Jeremy and Jesse Warren and Samuel Ulmer; sister, Jane Kennefick of Australia; four brothers, James Kennefick and his companion Lila of Gloucester, Daniel Kennefick and his wife, Diane of Newark, Delaware, Donald Kennefick and his wife Mary Lee of W. Newbury, MA, Timothy Kennefick and his wife Vicky of Topsfield; his former wife, Nancy Kennefick of Panama City Beach, Fla. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Wednesday, January 31, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Tuesday, January 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. The burial will be held privately.
