Mary C. (Cortina)'s Story
Mrs. Mary C. (Cortina) Frontiero, 97, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Gloucester Health Care following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Gaetano Frontiero.
Mary was born October 29, 1919 in Gloucester. She is the daughter of the late Antonio S. and Mary C. (Canas) Cortina. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School where she held high honors, played the violin and was in the Spanish club.
Mary worked at the former Goldman’s Clothing Store. She worked in the children’s department as a sales clerk.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, she especially enjoyed entertaining during the holiday’s. She also enjoyed reading, dancing, fine dining, cooking, baking and writing poetry. She was a recipient of the Sawyer Medal. Mary was also a member of the Gloucester Fraternity Club. She was also a member of the Carmelite Order.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Frontiero and his wife, Marilyn of Florida, Jo-Ann Meyers of Rochester, N.H., Diane M. Testaverde and her longtime companion, Frank McCarthy of Gloucester and Mary Ann Blake of Rockport. She was the cherished grandmother to her 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her former son in law James Testaverde of Gloucester, her sister-in-law, Catherine Frontiero of Gloucester as well as many nieces and nephews including Jean Testaverde and Paul Codinha.
She was predeceased by her sons-in-law, Kenneth P. Meyers and Randel D. Blake; her sister, Esther Smith and her nephew, John Testaverde.
Mary’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Thursday morning, October 26, 2017 from 10 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester at 11:30 a.m. Mary’s grandson Monsignor Anthony Frontiero will be the celebrant.
