Mary J. (Dumas) Guerin, 91, wife of Joseph A. Guerin of Lawrence, formerly from Essex, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at home after a battle with cancer. She was born in Gloucester on April, 2, 1926, to the late Philip and Ellen (Callahan) Dumas. She graduated from St. Ann's High School in 1944 and was a telephone operator in Gloucester for 10 years.
Her first husband, John R. Brigham, Sr. of Gloucester, died in 1978. She lived in Bergenfield, N.J., for 25 years and was active at St. John the Evangelist Church as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Apostolic to the Sick and the Cursillo Movement. She also attended St. John the Baptist Church in Essex, as well as Sacred Heart Church and St. Patrick Parish, both in Lawrence. Mrs. Guerin loved and lived for her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph; her three sons, Peter P. Brigham of Ipswich, John R. II and Michele Brigham of Bloomingdale, N.J., and Michael J. Brigham of Alton, N.H.; five step-children, Joseph M. and Judy Guerin of Oswego, N.Y., Teresa L. Elliott of Belmont, N.H., Robert J. and Cheryle Guerin of Beverly, Jeanine M. and Dean Black of Rowley, and Michelle A. Romanski of Rowley; her cousin, Martha O'Connor of Rockport; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Philip J. (Pete) Dumas, Jr. of Gloucester, and a nephew, Steven P. Dumas of Magnolia.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, will be on Wednesday, December 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 52 Main Street, Essex, MA. Her burial will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly, NJ at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Northeast ARC, 6 Southside Road, Danvers, MA 01923.
