Maurice H. "Mike"'s Story
Maurice (Mike) H. Wheeler, 80, of Gloucester, husband of Alice P. (Bellavance) Wheeler, passed away in the Beverly Hospital on Monday, October 2, 2017, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born in Cabot, Vt., on November 2, 1936, the son of the late Maurice H. and May E. (Wallbridge) Wheeler.
Mike served proudly in the U.S. Navy from August 31, 1954 to October 1, 1957. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, whom he was married to for 57 years; a daughter, Anne M. Wheeler of Gloucester, five sons, John M. Wheeler and his wife, Janise of Gloucester, Joseph A. Wheeler and his wife, Celia of Connecticut, James D. Wheeler and his wife, Deborah of Beverly, Germain P. Wheeler and his wife, Annie of OK, Glen D. Wheeler of Gloucester; a brother, William H. Wheeler of Vermont; sisters, Marilyn J. Searles of N.H., Martha Neveau of Vt, Marjorie Wells of Vermont; 22 grandchildren; one great -granddaughter, and many, many friends, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Mark Wheeler; sister, M. Jean Pike and two grandchildren, Jeremy Lapine and Christopher Wheeler.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish, Prospect St. Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. His burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to: The Christopher J.
