Michael J. LoGrande, 81, husband of Frances M. (Trupiano) LoGrande of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday evening, June 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Trappeto, Sicily, on October 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Matteo and Santina (Bologna) LoGrande.
Michael immigrated to the United States as a young boy. He attended St. Ann’s School and then served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a fisherman out of Gloucester on many boats including the family owned vessel California, San Victoria, American Eagle, the John F. Kennedy, and later was the Captain and owner of the fishing vessel the Little Sandra, named after his daughter, until his retirement.
Michael was an active member of the St. Peter’s Club and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church of Holy Family Parish. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Frances, and friends, spending time tending his garden, and being with his family. He took great pride and enjoyment in his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Frances, of 56 years, he is survived by his four children, Matteo LoGrande and companion, Cathy Palazzola Murray, Gaetano “Tom” LoGrande and his wife, Stephanie (Gove), Salvatore LoGrande, Sandra LoGrande and companion, Debora Taylor; grandchildren, Nina and Samuel LoGrande; a sister-in-law, Guiseppa “Pina” (Trupiano) Bologna; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Salvatore “Sam” and Jeanne LoGrande; his sister, Catherine LoGrande; his brothers-in-law, Antonino Trupiano and his wife, Margaret, Gaspar Trupiano and his wife, Eileen, and Leonardo Bologna; and nephews, Michael LoGrande and Gaetano “Tom” Trupiano.
His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Friday, July 1, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Ann’s Church, at 9:30 a.m.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
