Mrs. Miriam B. (Purdy) Karcher, 88, of Gloucester, passed away on Friday morning, August 11, 2017, in Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Ralph E. Karcher, Jr.
Miriam was born September 4, 1928, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Carrie (White) Purdy. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester as well as a graduate of Gloucester High School.
Miriam enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed going out to dinner especially the Village Restaurant for fried clams. She and Ralph enjoyed taking long rides. She loved to read.
She is survived by her son, Kirk M. Karcher and his wife, Brittany of Rowley; her sister, Shirley Ross of Essex; her cherished grandchildren, Jacob Karcher and his wife, Molly (Scali) and Courtney Ayer and her husband, Matthew. She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren, Bhodi, Thea and Arlo Ayer, Zachary, Abigail and Chloe Karcher; as well as many nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Karen Shah and her husband, Al of Magnolia who assisted in taking care of Miriam.
She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Purdy.
