Gloucester - Patrick J. Brien, 90, husband of the late Barbara A. (Mellow) Brien, of Gloucester, passed away on Tuesday morning March 26, 2019, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on March 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Raymond and Olive (Mitchell) Brien.
As a young man Patrick had served in the Merchant Marines and later worked as a commercial fisherman out of Boston and Gloucester aboard the Bonnie Lou, Baby Rose and the Flow. He quit fishing in the early 60s and then worked as a longshoreman for Elliott Stevedoring and Gloucester Stevedoring and many local fresh fish draggers. He retired at the age of 82 unloading the local draggers.
Patrick was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church and member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks.
He is survived by his four children, Linda Finlay and husband Bruce, Michael Brien and companion Christine Menard, Bonnie Brien, Serena Zawadzki and husband Michael; grandchildren, Paul Sonia and companion Amy DiChiara, Kelly Sonia and companion Nat Skerry, Lindsay Carroll and husband Clinton, Brian Finlay, Matthew Brien, Chelsea Zawadzki and companion James Brown, Sophie Zawadzki; great-grandchildren, Emily, Maddison, Cameron, Noah, Katelyn and Gino; his sister Mary Clayton; brother Thomas Brien; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he was predeceased by his sister Olive Stone; and brothers Raymond, Ralph, and James Brien.

His funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Friday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, Massachusetts.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
