Patrick J. "Pat"'s Story
Mr. Patrick J. ”Pat” Dwyer, 77, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 in Den Mar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a decline in health.
Pat was born March 16, 1940 in Holyoke. He was the son of the late Edward and Catherine (McCarthy) Dwyer. He was a resident of Gloucester for many years and previously resided in Danvers. He was a graduate of Danvers High School where he was the goalie for the hockey team. For most of his professional life, Pat was a sports writer/reporter for the Danvers Herald and Salem News. Pat enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams the Red Sox and Patriots. He was also an avid reader, and enjoyed reading the Gloucester Times, Salem News and Boston Herald. He was a 37 year friend of Bill W and had an insatiable sweet tooth. In his later years, Pat worked for the Gloucester Public Schools as a Custodian for 12 years before retiring in 2009.
Pat is survived by his long time devoted friends, Mary and Floyd Cribbs of Gloucester; his sister, Judith (Dwyer) Cassidy and her husband, Michael of Topsfield; his aunt, Joan St. James of Connecticut, as well as many nieces and nephews including Michael E. Cassidy and his wife, Zumrut, Valerie A. Murray and her husband, Christopher and their children, Connor and Emma, Lisa M. Cassidy and her daughter, Rebecca Ahmed and Tracy R. Cassidy Linonis and her husband, Joseph and their sons, Spencer and Trevor.
In honoring with Pat’s requests funeral services will be private. There will be a Celebration of Life in honor of Pat at the Magnolia Public Library on May 20, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
