Peter Louis's Story
Peter Louis Provost, 62, of Gilbert, S.C., died Saturday, November 12, 2016, supporting the health, safety, and environment of our troupes in Afghanistan. He was the beloved husband of Gail Provost (Perkins) of Gilbert, S.C. Peter was much loved and will be forever missed by his wife, Gail, and his children, Meghan (Trevor) Hollingsworth of Anderson, S.C., Sarah (Justin) Peterson of Moncks Corner, S.C., Brian Provost of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Spencer Provost of Venice, Calif. He was the son of Louis and Gertrude Provost of Essex, Mass. He also had three beautiful grandchildren, Della, Davis, and Maddie.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved Lake Murray, but mostly his family and country. He was a passionate runner, teacher, and mentor to all.
He was awarded a certificate of recognition from the United States Marine Corps while working in Afghanistan. One of Peter’s safety legacies was the “Provost Ladder." It was an innovation in making helicopter sling loads a safer operation. He also implemented many programs and protocols to make a huge impact on the bases in Afghanistan.
He is survived by the following siblings, David and Linda Provost of Sudbury, Mass., Susan and Paul Dionne of Derry, N.H., Daniel and Bonnie Provost of South Hampton, N.H., John and Laura Provost of Allenstown, N.H., Judy and Michael Ashley of Ipswich, Mass., Paul and Kim Provost of Danvers, Mass., Jane and Darren Medeiros of Pleasanton, Calif., Leo and Allison Provost of Essex, Mass., Louise and Peter Conlon of Framingham, Mass., Anne-Marie and Fred Merrill of Derry, N.H., Phyllis and Doug Musco of Manchester, Mass., and Scott and Sydney Provost of Vashon, Wash.
A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. There will be no visiting hours. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Friends of the Fallen, P.O. Box 2081, Dover AFB, DE 19902; or to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29205.
