Philip John Moody

Philip John Moody Conway, NH - Mr. Philip John Moody died of lung cancer at home on September 25, 2018, in Conway.
He was born in Lynn, Mass. on April 14, 1938 to Robert F. Moody Sr. and Theresa (Walsh) Moody and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. He joined the Lynn National Guard and while at Camp Drum NY was given an award for most outstanding soldier among several hundred others. He later joined the Salem Navy Seabees where he did electrical work.
His extensive work skills included autobody at Stevens Motors, maintenance at O'Donnell Usen and the Emerson Inn in Rockport.
He did welding for Essex Industrial Cab and briefly had his own welding business. He could do automotive repairs, chair caning and carpentry. He also tended bar at Cameron's, The Gloucester House, the Down East and Hilltop Steak House. His last position was as a security guard at a hospital in N.H.
Phil loved hunting and fishing and had been a member of the Cape Ann Sportsman's Club. For many years he went deer hunting in Ossippee, N.H. He tied his own flies for fishing and made his own bullets for his muzzle loader. Phil was very proud of his Abenaki Indian heritage. His Native name was Spotted Turtle. He enjoyed giving talks on Native culture to the students at the Beeman School in Gloucester. After becoming a nondenominational minister he performed marriages for his Native friends and attended many Native Powwows.
He is survived by his wife Debbie and her two children and grandchildren; his sons Philip of Mass. and Brian of Gloucester; his daughters Patricia Newton of Lynn, Karen (John) McGrath of Swampscott and Lisa Begeal of Gloucester. Grandchildren are Jonathan and Jason Moody, Stevi-Lyn Salafia, Raven and Mikayla and Jesse Begeal as well as Mallory and Stephanie McGrath, Corrine and Bobby Newton and Sean Moody. Great-grandchildren are Camryn (Nevaeh) Moody, Jaila Mello and Skylar Moody.
He is survived by his brother Robert Moody and his wife Breda, their two children Dennis Moody and Kathy McGough and her children as well as many cousins in the Lynn area.
He is also survived by his two former wives, Carol Earl and Paul (Mitchell) Moody. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Corrine, his first wife, Dottie Reed Haskell and his son Michael Moody, who passed on Jan. 28, 2007.
