Phyllis's Story

ESSEX, MA: Phyllis Arlene (Homans) Julian, beloved wife of the late Elliot Robert Julian, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Ledgewood Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Beverly. Phyllis was born May 7, 1932, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late Alice M. (Levie) Homans and Donald P. Homans. Phyllis attended Gloucester Public Schools and was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Sawyer Medal award. During her high school years, she was employed by Empire clothing company and was a telephone operator. She later worked at Progressive Oil in Gloucester. Phyllis took time away from working to raise and care for her large family and during that time she also enjoyed working in her garden and baking. As her children grew older, she returned to work at Ann & Hope and later, went to work at Beverly National Bank as a head teller until her retirement. Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Bruce R. Julian and his wife, Maria of Peabody, Brian K. Julian of Essex; and three daughters, Wendy P. Hamilton and her husband, C. Raymond Hamilton of Gloucester, Lori J. Curreri and her husband, Frank P. Curreri, and Cynthia B. Chisholm and her husband Eric F. Chisholm, all of Beverly. She is also survived by her two brothers, Stanley A. Homans and William H. Homans of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Julian) Vincent and her husband, Shawn Vincent, of Peabody, Christina (Julian) Brackett and her husband Chase Brackett of Brentwood N.H., Brian Hamilton of Gloucester, Heather (Hamilton) Papows and her husband, Michael, Kristin Curreri, Brianna Chisholm and Matthew Chisholm all of Beverly; and her two great-grandchildren, Mia and Cassandra Vincent of Peabody. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Theresa Lucas and her husband, Glenn of Gloucester; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Priscilla Lane of Gloucester; and her daughter-in-law, Stephanie (Doane) Julian of Beverly.

Visiting hours will be held in the James C. Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday (today), February 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Thursday, February 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a service to follow. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her burial will be private.
