BAYONET POINT, FL: Raymond Sargent Lane was born in Gloucester, the son of Lawrence A. Lane and Rachel Sargent Lane. He was the husband of Mary E. (Swinson) Lane. Following graduation from Gloucester High School, Class of 1945, he joined the army. He graduated from University of Massachusetts and got his Masters Degree from Salem State. He taught social studies at Gloucester High School until his retirement. He was an avid sportsman. He played baseball at UMass and for local town teams. He coached junior league baseball and was instrumental in starting the Riverdale Peewee football program. Ray was an avid golfer. He and Mary had many friends and shared many memories as members of Bass Rocks and Beacon Woods golf clubs. He was a lifelong member of the Gloucester Elks and the American Legion. He and Mary loved to travel, visiting four continents. He loved entertaining at the Florida house, where he could act as the travel guide for all his guests. He had a rich life filled with great friends and did whatever he wanted right up until the end. He is survived by his wife, Mary; brother, Leland and his wife, Gay; and Raymond's children, Scott and wife, Susan, of Rockport, David and wife, Kathy, Gary Lane and Sharon Militelllo, all of Gloucester. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as stepchildren, John Morris and his wife, Joanie, Gary Morris and Rob Morris. He was predeceased by his brother, Gilbert Lane, and stepson, Ken Morris.
