Richard's Story

Richard Epta Teel, 76, formerly of Hamilton, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the Elaine Center in Hadley, Mass. Born in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Epta F. and Virginia (Heigh) Teel.
Dick grew up in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1958. He attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. Dick began his career at United Shoe Machinery Corp and also worked at Teel Machine and Endicott College. He was an owner of B&P Machine Company in Essex for many years. Dick raised his family in Hamilton and had passions for hockey and hunting. He enjoyed watching the Bruins and was a founder of APT Hockey, one of the first youth hockey programs on the North Shore in the 1970s. He spent many hours at ice hockey rinks coaching, refereeing and watching his kids play. He also loved being in the Maine woods scouting and hunting for deer, bear and moose.
He is survived by two children, Richard E. Teel, Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Somers, Conn.; and his daughter, Shelly Ann Teel-Gobeille and Vicki Adams of West Newfield, Maine; and his son-in-law, Mark Gobeille of Beverly; three siblings, Kathleen Teel of Hamilton, Mark Teel and his wife, Vilija of Arlington, Va., and Lorie (Teel) Woodward and her husband, Scott of Essex; and two grandchildren, Emily G. Teel and Samuel J. Teel. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann Teel.
There will be a graveside gathering on Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m., at the Essex Cemetery on Spring Street in Essex, followed by a lunch at Beverly Golf and Tennis Club, 134 McKay Street, Beverly, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Bishop Fenwick High School, 99 Margin Street, Peabody, MA 01960, Attention: Fenwick Fund.
