Robert B.'s Story
Robert B. Auwerda, 54, of Rowley, husband of Elizabeth (Orlando) Auwerda, passed away at his home, unexpectedly, on Saturday morning, November 5, 2016.
Robert was born in Geneva, Ill, on January 5, 1962, the son of John N. and Marion (Nelson) Auwerda. He graduated from Wheaton North High School and furthered his education at Gordon College receiving his Bachelors in Philosophy and Biblical Studies. He continued on to receive his Masters in Theology from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton. Bob was a program manager at Eliot Community Human Services. He was a philosophical man who had a strong, deep faith. A spiritual person, he read the bible every day, led bible study groups, and had a gift for bringing life to the books of the bible. He loved to be intellectually stimulated and found joy and excitement through reading and writing. He wrote a book, "Fatherhood, Life in a 3 Ring Circus” that was published by Shaw publishers. Bob was an accomplished water skier, and “wicked good” at performing back flips on his skis. When his knees got older, he decided to pilot the boat and teach others how to ski. From when he was young, he summered in Missouri where he would fresh water fish at Tablerock Lake, one of his favorite places. He enjoyed researching unknown bands and would go to small venues to see them. Bob had been in the Catskills many times, always taking time to visit and hear one of his favorite bands, The Felice Brothers. He loved going for long walks with his dog “Atticus” along the beaches and back roads, and through the White Mountains, where he found time for solitude and contemplation. His most important time was spent with family. His six children adored him and he had a rapport with them that was of love and trust. He was a spectacular dad who stayed at home with them when they were babies and his love for his wife and children was immeasurable. There was nothing more important to him than his family. A wonderful, caring and loving man, he will be missed wholeheartedly. He is survived by his wife, Liz, whom he was married to for 25 years; his six children, Zachary Robert, Sara Elizabeth, Samuel Jacob, Caleb Joseph, Margreta Lisette and Charles John Auwerda; his brother David, husband of Patty of NE; his parents, John and Marion Auwerda of Kimberling City, Miss.; his mother and father-in-law, Carlo R. and Helen Orlando of Gloucester; his aunt, Virginia Nelson of Illinois; his uncle, John Nelson of Missouri and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Auwerda and his nephew, Jacob Auwerda.
His visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Tuesday, November 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. His service and burial will be held privately. Online condolences may be given at: www.greelyfuneralhome.com.
