Mr. Robert L. ‘’Ingy’’ Ingersoll, 79, of Gloucester passed away Sunday May 22, 2016, in Golden Living after a brief illness.
Ingy was born August 20, 1936, son of the late Lowell S. and Mary C. (Silva) Ingersoll. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester Schools.
He worked on the Gloucester waterfront as a fisherman years ago.
His true passion was boxing and he boxed at Madison Square Garden. He was an avid runner and ran many Boston Marathons and would frequently run all around the Cape Ann area.
He is survived by his children, William Ingersoll and his wife, Amy of Lumpkin, Ga., and Julie Ingersoll of Beverly; his grandchildren, Vanessa Parker and Nina Ingersoll; his great-grandchildren, Caden Shorte, Carson Johnston and Rodney Parker; and his devoted caretakers and nieces, Susan Ciarametaro and her husband, Vincent of Gloucester, Jayne Ginn and her husband, Michael of Essex, and Dawna Lapine and her husband, Myron of Gloucester. He is also survived by his many great-nieces and nephews, Autumn, Joshua, Haley, Ali, Derrick and Chelsey; his three step-children, Bobby and Joey Silva and Sherry Borge; his uncle, Joseph Silva of Gloucester; and nephew, James Rowe of Gloucester.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Charlotte (Ingersoll) Spinney and Doris (Ingersoll) Rowe; and his step-daughter, Jackie Silva.
Ingy’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Thursday, May 26, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
