Robert W. Emmons, Jr., of Annisquam, Mass., and Vero Beach, Fla., passed away on April 10, 2017.
Bobby was born in New York City on February 3, 1931, son of Robert Wales Emmons and Frances Weld Emmons (Wells) of New York City. He attended St. Bernard’s School, Groton School (1948), Harvard University (1952), and University of Virginia Law School (1958). He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Bobby was a partner at Palmer and Dodge in Boston. After he retired from the practice of law, Bobby was for many years President of the Graduate Board of the Hasty Pudding Club at Harvard. The humorous theatrical performances of the Hasty Pudding and the Tavern Club appealed to his dry wit and infectious sense of humor.
He loved to cook, where he could be creative and share a hobby he loved with others. Bobby and his wife, Mimi, also shared a love of travel which they did extensively over the years. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, step-father and a true gentleman.
Bobby was active in his community, serving on the boards of the New England Deaconess Hospital, the Home for Little Wanderers, Brookwood School and the Fiduciary Trust Company. He was also a longtime member and past chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Manchester, and served as Treasurer of the Annisquam Village Church.
A lifelong Red Sox fan and lover of all sports, Bobby spent many years coaching little league in Manchester. He enjoyed tennis and golf and won the Maine state paddle tennis championship in 1974. Bobby was a member of the Annisquam Yacht Club, Myopia Hunt Club, the Moorings Yacht and Country Club, and a past member of the Tavern Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Mimi, as well as his four children, Elizabeth B. Emmons and her husband, Terrence Dunn of Pelham Manor, N.Y., Catherine D. Emmons of Cambridge, Robert W. Emmons III of Gloucester, and Anne E. Barton and her husband, Bill of Hamilton. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Courtney H. Wilson of Manchester, and Christopher U. Wilson and his wife, Kristen of Essex. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Thomas Emmons and Olivia Dunn; and two step-grandchildren, Fletcher and Dashiell Wilson. Bobby is also survived by his sister, Brooks Levy of Skillman, N.J.; his sister-in-law, Constance Cederholm and her husband, David of Vero Beach, Fla.; and his father-in-law, Chandler N. Davis and his wife, Nancy of Annisquam.
