Roger A.'s Story
Roger Arthur Sirois, 96, of Gloucester, husband of the late Florence (Pelletier) Sirois, and the late Joyce (Drost) Sirois, passed away at Ledgewood Nursing Home on Monday, June 5, 2017, after a short illness.
Roger was born in Beverly on June 2, 1921, the son of the late Arthur E. and M. Rose (Belanger) Sirois.
Roger was a graduate of Beverly High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served proudly during WWII. He served overseas for 20 months in the South Pacific and holds four battle stars.
He was an accomplished carpenter and built his own boat, which he loved taking out on the ocean. Roger also enjoyed saltwater fishing with his family here and in Florida. Later in life, he bought a travel trailer which he and Joyce took to Florida before eventually moving there. His two favorite places were being around the ocean or near trains. Whether in Florida, or here in Massachusetts, Roger made friends everywhere. Roger was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor and he had an infectious personality. He left friends wherever he went and he will be truly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Carmen Darisse and her husband, Marc of Salem, Mass., Gisele Stedfast and her husband, Daniel of Epping, N.H., Gloria Pero and her husband, John of Salem, Mass.; a sister, Jean Skelley and her husband, George of Beverly; nine grandchildren, Justin Darisse and his wife, Lara Fisher of Gaithersburg, Md., Renee Loeckler and her husband, Jeremy of Dedham, Mass., Adam Darisse and his wife, Lauren of North Andover, Mass., Jacob Darisse and Samantha Southern of Salem, Emily Darisse of Gloucester, Rhiannon Fenstermaker and her husband, Michael of Epping, N.H., Aaron Stedfast and Jared Owen of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kirsten Gilligan and her husband, Peter of Alton, N.H., Preston Pero and Kevin Black of Boston; six great-grandchildren, Nathan and Eric Loeckler, Jacob Darisse, Jr., Nolan Fenstermaker, Belle and Noah Gilligan; sister and brother-in-law, Bernadette Hebert and her husband, Paul of Connecticut; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mark Drost and his wife, Mary of Connecticut; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Simone and her husband, Patrick as well as his brother, Clarence Sirois and wife, Stella.
Roger’s visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 10, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington, Gloucester, MA. His mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Main Street, Essex, MA, followed by his burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem. Family and friends are cordially invited.
