FORMERLY OF BRADFORD AND GLOUCESTER: Ruth Ann (Hammond) Platts, 74, of Methuen, and former longtime Bradford resident, died Saturday, August 29, at Wingate at Reading.
She was born in Gloucester, June 20, 1941, daughter of the late Raymond and Dorothy (Scriven) Hammond.
Educated in the Gloucester school system, Mrs. Platts graduated from Gloucester High School and earned her Esthetician’s Certificate in Boston.
A self-employed beautician, Mrs. Platts was also employed as a manager at various local department stores including Zayre’s, Ames, and Stewarts.
She was president of the PTA for the Haverhill School System, founded the Block Mother’s Association, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Alden Society.
Mrs. Platts enjoyed arts and crafts. She was very talented at sewing and cherished time spent with her family.
Her survivors include her husband of 54 ½ years, Kenneth H. Platts of Methuen; two sons, Steven and his wife, Diane Platts of Houston, Texas, Michael and his wife, Kandace Platts of Haverhill; two daughters, Karen and her husband, Bill Held of Andover, Andrea Twining of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Jean and her husband, Kenneth Vicari of Gloucester, Lois and her husband, Joseph Perry of Chester, N.H.; six grandchildren, Ryan and Josh Platts, Anna Held, Kelsey and Tyler Twining, Chloe Parades; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Thursday, September 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main Street, Bradford, followed by a Funeral Service at 7:15 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
