Gloucester - Salvatore "Sam" Pizzimenti, age 66, of Gloucester, passed away on March 15, 2019, peacefully, surrounded by family.
Born January 24, 1953, he was the son of the late Mary Rose (Parisi) Pizzimenti and Vincent Pizzimenti. After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1971, he attended Bridgeton Academy and then went on to Norwich University, attaining both his undergraduate and master's degrees, in physical education.
Sam had an innate passion for sports. He was so proud to be recognized by induction into the Gloucester High School Hall of Fame in 1995 for his involvement in many sports. In 2011, he was further honored when inducted into the Norwich Hall of Fame for football and lacrosse.
A lifelong resident of Gloucester, Mass., he was very ingrained in the community, coaching youth football and little league. Sam was extremely honored to carry the St. Peter's statue, for many years, alongside his brother Anthony and late father Vincent ("Jimmy.")
Sam was blessed with amazing friendships, some spanning decades. He loved golf trips with his friends and treasured his weekly coffee and strolls on the Boulevard. Always the life of a party no matter the occasion, he could frequently be found on the dance floor. Sam was extremely family oriented.
In addition to his wife Mary (Crossen) Pizzimenti, he is survived by his two sons and their wives, Vincent and Alexandra (Rose) Pizzimenti, and Daniel Pizzimenti and Allison McPhedran. Sam is also survived by his two brothers and their wives, Anthony and Linda (O'Maley) Pizzimenti, and Vincent and Dolly Pizzimenti. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family held very close to his heart.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, will be held on Wednesday, March 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life at the Gloucester House Restaurant will immediately follow the burial. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Masschusetts, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.

I just remember that for a few years after Norwich, Sam worked and lived in Burlington Vermont where I lived for 20 years. He worked at the cool bar and restaurant named "What Ales You". Rest in Peace Sam.

I was in the same class at Norwich as Sam. I watched him learn to ski. It didn't take him long to pick it up. Great guy and star athlete.

So very few possessed such a true heart, one of such genuine goodness and warmth. I was one of the lucky ones that was honored to have you bless my life. You my friend are a wonderful example to us all of what a beautiful soul is and I only regret to have not said this to you in person. My deepest condolences to your family.
