Sandra E.'s Story
Sandra E. (Runsala) Horne (81), wife of the late Frederick Horne, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2017, at the Gloucester Health Care in Gloucester after a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 23, 1936, to the late Regina (Balzarini) and Theodore Runsala in Rockport, Mass., and shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with her husband Fred.
Sandra attended Rockport schools and graduated from Rockport High School, Class of 1954. Having been brought up in Pigeon Cove, she always considered herself a “Cover” and was proud of her Finnish and Italian heritage. Prior to getting married she worked as a seamstress for Tuc Kraft in Rockport.
Sandra enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and gardening. Her family was her life and she was devoted to all of them.
She is survived by her sister, Sally Thompson of Lincoln, Calif.; daughters, Allison Emerson of Texas and Kelley Spada and her husband, Darren of Texas; son, Andrew Horne and his wife, Toni of Gloucester; granddaughters, Julia Horne of Gloucester and Abigayle Spada of Texas; grandson, Jason Horne of Rockport; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Horne, and son, Mark Horne.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no services. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Cape Ann Animal Aid.
Sandra’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Gloucester Health Care for their professional, yet personal care of her during her residence.
