Scott N.'s Story
Scott Norman Anderson, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Gloucester on October 21, 1931, the son of the late Ivan C. and Evelyn (Olson) Anderson. He attended Gloucester schools and graduated from Gloucester High (Vocational) School in 1949. He enlisted in the Air Force and served from Jan. 1950 to Jan. 1954. Scott was a veteran of the Korean War and was assigned to Strategic Air Command, working as a crew chief/mechanic on both B29 and B36 bombers. He was honorably discharged as a Staff SGT, having been awarded the National Defense and Good Conduct medals, and Expert Pistol and Sharpshooter Rifle Medals. He went on to attend East Coast Aero Technical School to obtain Federal Aircraft and Engine Certification. Scott worked for Capital Airlines before returning to East Coast Aero Tech/Wentworth Institute of Technology for 37 years. He also served as a Designated Mechanic Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. In his early years he was an avid hunter/fisherman and won many trophies in pistol competitions. He was a builder of Muzzle loading rifles and pistols. In later years he was a member of the Rockport Golf Club, winning a number of super senior championships. He was also an avid fundraiser for St. Jude’s Shave to Save.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 18 years, Kathleen (Lynch/Cressey/Enos), one daughter, Kim V. (Anderson) DiCampli of Hockessin, Del.; four stepchildren, George Cressey, Jacquelyn (Cressey) wife of Daniel Doucette, Colleen Enos and Daniel Enos, all of Essex; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth and Thomas Cressey, Alison and Paige Marshall, Sarah, Emily and Carolyn Doucette; seven step grandchildren, David, Catherine and Olivia Frontiero, Ashley and Jasmine Dort, Dr. Dennis DiCampli and his wife Rebecca and Daniel DiCampli and his wife Lauren and four great-granddaughters, Adriana, Sarah, Gabrielle and Abigail DiCampli. He was predeceased by his parents and first wife of 47 years, Frances L. (Meade) Anderson.
His visiting hours will be held TODAY, Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. His Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 8 at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 52 Main St., Essex. Burial will follow in Spring St. Cemetery.
