GLOUCESTER- Sebastian "Busty" P. Nicastro, 88, husband of Grace M. (Curcuru) Nicastro of Gloucester passed away at the Beverly Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
He was born in Gloucester on August 31, 1929, son of the late Capt. Salvatore and Vence (Saputo) Nicastro. Sebastian was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1949 and later attended Wentworth Institute and New York Butchers. Following in his father's footsteps, he began a career in fishing. Sebastian fished aboard the F/V's The Serafina N. and The Barnegat, out of Gloucester. He enjoyed painting, watching the Patriots and Red Sox and was a great story teller. Master of all trades, he was a devoted family man and friend to all. He also loved traveling with his wife and his sisters-in-law. Sebastian will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace M. Nicastro; five daughters, Vence Bertolino and her husband, Skip, Stephanie Maltese and her husband Robert, Lisa Freda, Regina Long and her husband, John, Michelle Nicastro and her partner, Mark Destino; his son, Philip Nicastro and his wife, Christine (Ciluffo); grandchildren, Christian Bertolino and his wife, Karine (Jouhourian), Nathan Bertolino and his wife, Abbie (Telles), Vanessa Rowe (Bertolino) and her husband, Derrick, Elizabeth Scannura (Long) and her husband, Joseph, Jacqueline Long, Lauren Foster, Sara Nicastro and her partner, Al Watson, Marcel Freda and his fiancee, Colleen Quigley, Vincent Freda, Hannah Freda and her partner, Travis Gallant and Rachel Nicastro; great-grandchildren, Noah Nicastro, Scarlett Watson, Liam Gauthier and Amina Rhim; brothers, Jerry Nicastro and his wife, Mary (Curcuru), Philip Nicastro and his wife, Frankie (Sullivan), Sam Nicastro and his wife Elizabeth 'Betty" (Morton) and Tony Nicastro; his sister, Fina Nicastro; brothers-in-law, Anthony Curcuru and his wife, Janice (Rose), Gerald Curcuru and his wife Joanie (Trybulski), Robert Curcuru and his wife Marcia (Collins); sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Holmes) Curcuru, Anita (Linquata) Curcuru, Rosalie "Lale" (Curcuru) Backus, Mary (Curcuru) Fuhs and her husband, Paul and Catherine "Tina" (Curcuru) Nickerson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother and father, Salvatore and Vence, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Capt. Philip and Grace (Parisi) Curcuru; his in-laws, Mary Linda (Carson) Nicastro, Salvatore and Florence (Giamanco) Curcuru, Nicholas Curcuru, John "Thitter" and Phyllis (O'Maley) Curcuru, Thomas and Nina (Parisi) Curcuru, Liborio Curcuru, Joseph and Josephine "Suda" (Loiacano) Curcuru, Philip Jr. and Catherine (Interante) Curcuru and Felicia (Curcuru) Lowe.
His memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. A visitation will be held prior to the Mass on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. The burial will be held following the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to: St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect St. Gloucester, MA 01930.
