Stephen's Story

ROCKPORT - Mr. Stephen M. "Babe" McDonald, 62, of Rockport passed away suddenly on Saturday evening December 30, 2017 in Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was the husband of Gail T. (Samson) McDonald with whom he shared 12 years of marriage.
Steve was born May 4, 1955 in Boston. He is the son of the late Richard and Kathleen McDonald. He was a resident of Rockport for many years previously residing in Arlington where he graduated from Arlington High School.
Steve worked at the Lynnfield Commons as the Building Maintenance Supervisor for several years.
Steve loved being a Grampy and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing. Steve was a nice guy who had the talent to fix anything that is broken. He especially enjoyed working on cars.
In addition to his loving wife, Gail, Steve is survived by his step children Jennifer Rico and her husband, Lou of Amesbury and William Mathews of Oaklahoma, his sister, Gail Diabo of Gloucester as well as his cherished grandsons, Cole Mathews and Elijah Doucette. He is also survived by his father in law Robert Samson and his wife, Charlotte of Sagamore Beach, Cape Cod, his sister-in-law, Debra Walker and her husband Jim of Burlington; his brother-in-law, David Samson, his sister-in-law, Janice McDonald of Cambridge, his brother-in-law, Eugene Duffy and his wife Janet of Bluffton, SC, sister-in-law, Diane Samson of Nashua, N.H;, his Godson, Matthew McDonald of Cambridge and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother and father, Steve was predeceased by his brother, Richard McDonald.
Steve's visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Interment will be privately held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport.
