Sylvia Cecilio Ipswich - Sylvia Cecilio, 90, of Ipswich, formerly of Gloucester, wife of the late Anthony Cecilio passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Gloucester Healthcare.
She was born in Peabody, Massachusetts, on November 3, 1928, daughter of the late Alfred and Emily Silva. She was a graduate of Peabody High School.
Sylvia had plenty of jobs in her lifetime, but being a seamstress led her on the path of becoming a business owner, owning Aune’s Yarn Shop. She enjoyed knitting, dancing, and camping, in her later years. A favorite pastime of hers was going down to the river off of Orchard Way, just to take in the beautiful views. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Marc Cecilio and his wife Karen; daughters, Robin Stout and her husband Ron, and Toni Lee Gleason; her sister, Thelma Parks and her husband Edward; her brother, Ray Silva and his wife Rita; seven grandchildren, Tiffani Cecilio, Marc Cecilio II, Anthony Koller, Wendy Sutherland, Nicole LaBrie, James Gleason and Ashley Gleason; two step-grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle Callahan; three special nieces she considered her grandchildren, Tracy Schlichte, Jill Hale, and Jodi Tyne; many great-grandchildren; sisters-in-laws, Joanna Carrancho, Shirley Cecilio, Charlotte Cecilio and her husband John, Mary Lou Cecilio; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 12 p.m. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Open Door Food Pantry, 28 Emerson Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930, or to Office of Veteran Services, c/o United Veterans Council, City Hall, 9 Dale Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930. For online condolences, please visit

I am fondly remembering working with Sylvia at WE Blanchard’s on Main St. a long time ago. Many of us women got together a few years ago and laughed and shared stories of our adventures. Rest In Peace Sylvia. Pauline
