Thomas H. Powers, a lifetime resident of Rockport, passed away peacefully athis home on February 12, 2017, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Robert and Lucy Powers of Rockport and was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and William. He was the beloved husband of the late Maureen Sullivan Powers. Tom is survived by his daughter, Erin Powers Bilenchi; her husband, Kevin; grandsons, Nicholas and Hunter; his brother, John Powers; his niece, Catherine Sidlowski; nephew, Thomas Powers; and his long-term partner, Sally Tiller.
Tom was a graduate of Rockport High School and began his career as a machinist. He later earned a degree in Business Management from Salem State College and worked as a Procurement Manager at several high-technology companies.
Tom loved the warm weather and relaxing on the beach with friends. One of Tom’s greatest pleasures was vacationing on the Caribbean islands, soaking up the sun. In particular, he enjoyed traveling with his daughter, her husband, and grandsons to warm destinations. Despite his love of warm beaches, Tom was a New Englander at heart and enjoyed many winter weekends and vacations skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.
He will be missed by his loving family and friends.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the Rockport Community Center, 58 Broadway, Rockport, on Friday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m.
