Vivian's Story

Text size

GLOUCESTER - Vivian Ruth Wood of Gloucester passed away peacefully at her home Friday morning January 19, 2018, surrounded by family.
Vivian was born in Peabody, moving to Lynn shortly thereafter where she resided for most of the next 75 years. She graduated from Lynn English High-School and the Chandler Secretarial School. She wed her "beau" from church, Burton Wood in 1943, and shared 54 years of marriage before he passed away in 1997. Vivian worked at the GE Riverworks plant as an Executive Secretary until leaving to tend to the needs of her growing family.
Vivian took enormous pride in her role as a full-time mother and home-maker and devoted all her energy to taking care of her family and friends.
Special appreciation and thanks are expressed to caregivers Elsy Sanchez, Alba Luna and Enid Morillo, the extraordinary Hospice Care provided by Amy Bartlett and her aide Naimi from Care Dimensions, and for all family members, whose loving attention allowed Vivian to remain happily in her own home.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Carignan and husband, Leo Mitchell of Westminster; her son, Scott Wood and wife, Elizabeth of Rockport; grandchildren, Heather Richard, Scott Carignan, Marc Carignan, Greg Carignan, Laura Wood, Christopher Wood, and Catherine Wood. Vivian also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews as well. In addition to her husband, Burton, she was also predeceased by daughter, Gail Richard; sons-in-law, Gerard Richard and Ronald Carignan; sister, Gwendolyn Crane; brothers, Dr. Raymond Boyd & Dr. Malcolm Boyd along with her beloved parents, Amelia and Claude Boyd.
Vivian was an extraordinary woman and although we are saddened by her passing, we are heartened that she is no longer in pain and is now at peace.
There will be no visiting hours at this time, but a memorial service will be planned for April, specifics will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, your memorial donations would be greatly appreciated, sent in Vivian's name to the Washington Street Baptist Church, 256 Washington St., Lynn, MA 01902 or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
