Walter's Story

Mr. Walter F. “Sonny” Manger, Sr., 88, of Rockport, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in Den-Mar Health and Rehabilitation after a lengthy illness. He was the loving longtime companion to Marilyn Burns with whom he shared 35 years of companionship.
Sonny was born February 27, 1928 in Gloucester, son of the late William and Lucy (Damon) Manger. He was a resident of Gloucester for most of his life and attended Gloucester Schools. He left school early to take care of his family and was one of the best fish cutters.
Walter was a United States Marine veteran and held the rank of Private First Class.
He loved his devoted cat, Whiskers and also enjoyed singing especially the ching, ching china song. He will be missed by all who loved him.
He was the Manager of an Apartment Complex for several years. He previously ran “Sonnys” a small restaurant on Main Street and was also a bartender.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol Rodgers of Largo, Fla., and Linda Constantino; his grandchildren, David Chamberlain, Bobby Rodgers and Walter “Chip” Manger. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Walter F. Manger, Jr., daughter, Doris Chamberlain; his grandson, Jason manger as well as his three siblings.
