William E. "Whitey"'s Story

William E. “Whitey” Edmonds, 81, of Gloucester, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, at home with his loving family at his side. He was the loving husband of Shirley M. (Catalini) Edmonds.
Whitey was born in Gloucester on March 21, 1936 to Grace (Horton) and Francis Edmonds. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester Schools.
He worked at Hardy’s Hatchery in Essex, Omniwave and LePages in Gloucester before retiring,
Whitey was proud of his Canadian heritage and traveled to Nova Scotia with his grandmother for many years to visit relatives. In 1955, he and Pete Young shared a motorcycle while traveling from Gloucester to San Diego, California to visit Pete’s sister, He loved sharing his experience showing the film they made of the trip. He was a loyal fan of the Red Sox and Patriots watching all their televised games. He was active in the Gloucester Football Boosters, attending all games in Gloucester selling 50/50 tickets to support the team. Whitey was always willing to help whoever needed assistance. He will be missed by all who knew him,
In 1960 he married the love of his life, Shirley with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He was a loving and devoted family man attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, school concerts, and school plays. His interest in these events took him to various cities and towns in Massachusetts, New York and yearly to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia for the International Dory Races. He loved playing the Lottery, trips to Mohegan and Foxwood Casinos, the yearly trips to Las Vegas and the yearly trips to New Hampshire to view the Fall foliage. He and Shirley vacationed in Italy visiting many sites in Florence, Venice, and Rome with the highlight of the trip attending Mass with the Pope in St. Peter’s Square.
Whitey leaves three children, Ann Marie Parisi and husband Frank, Barbara Jean Ciolino and husband Frank, and William Edmonds Jr, and wife, Michele; his grandchildren, Randy Parisi, Stefanie Parisi, Joey Ciolino, Mikayla Ciolino, Kyle Edmonds, Tyler Edmonds, Troy Edmonds and Cole Edmonds. He leaves his siblings, Herbie Edmonds, Franna Brown, Gail Brigham, and Janice Edmonds; brothers-in law, Bob Catalini, Louie Pascucci, and Alan Brigham; his sisters-in-law, Daisy Oliver, Nancy Bateman, Natalie Roeder and a special sister-in-law, Vickie Edmonds and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, father, and sister Pauline Walkama.
Whitey’s visiting hours will be in his home at 6 Beauport Ave., Gloucester, on Friday evening, August 11, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann’s Church Pleasant St., Gloucester on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
