William's Story

GLOUCESTER: Mr. William S. Strescino, 92, of Gloucester passed away Tuesday morning in the Golden Living Center of Gloucester, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Marilyn R. (Miller) Strescino, with whom he shared almost 50 years of marriage.

William was born July 8, 1923, in Gloucester, son of the late Guiseppe and Lucia (Scarcella) Strescino. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester, a graduate of Eastern Avenue Elementary School, and Gloucester High School, Class of 1942.

He worked as a supervisor at the State Fish Pier for Kennebec Fish Corporation for many years, until his retirement in 1985. He previously worked on the Gloucester waterfront as a fish cutter and also worked for Hale Fish Company in Boston. After returning from the military he was a clothes model for Leo Alper.

He was a life member of the Gloucester Elks and the American Legion Post Three, Gloucester. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports, eating, and playing cards. He had many great dogs over the years, with whom he enjoyed spending time.

William was a WW II United States Navy veteran and held the rank of Seaman First Class. He served with his brothers during the war.

William is survived by his two daughters, Linda J. Hill and Joanne M. Joseph both of Gloucester; four grandchildren, Shannon N. Hill, Matthew W. Hill, Philip R. Joseph, Jr., and Bryan W. Joseph; his son-in-law, Philip R. Joseph, Sr.; his goddaughter, Marilyn Blaisdell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Lucia McClaughlin, Jennie Noble, Enrico, Joseph, Peter, Gildo, Robert, Richard and Eraldo Strescino.

William’s funeral service will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Friday, September 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
