Willis O.'s Story
Mr. Willis O. Hutchings, 98, of Gloucester, passed away on March 29, 2017, in Golden Living Center following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Troy) Hutchings.
Willis was the son of the late Waldo and Harriett B. (Luck) Hutchings. He lived all of his life in Gloucester. He served his country in WWII and fought in Italy and was stationed in Rome, until the end of the war. After the war, he returned home and married his wife, Dorothy, with whom he had six children, including two sets of twins.
He worked at United Shoe, Linen Thread, and the Cape Ann Tool Company. Later, to support his family, he worked as a truck driver for Cushman’s Bakery, Coke Cola, Gloucester Transit Mix and Hiltz Waste Management, until his retirement.
He is survived by his children, Darlene Bonina and her husband, Andrew, Geraldine Martin and her husband, Dennis, Janine Fiers and her husband, Robert, Denise Peres, Sherry Gallagher and Garry Hutchings. He had 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his grandsons, Jesse Hutchings and Dennis Martin, Jr.; his brothers, Roland and Raymond Hutchings; and his son-in-law, Joseph Gallagher.
