Accursio's Story

GLOUCESTER: Accursio B. Sanfilippo, 79, husband of Phyllis (Sclafani) Sanfilippo of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Sciacca, Sicily, Italy on February 4, 1936, son of the late Accursio and Rosa (Marino) Sanfilippo.

Accursio was the co-owner along with his brother, Antonino “Nino” of the fishing vessel, Theresa R., Captained the St. George and later the St. George II that fished out of Gloucester.

He enjoyed gardening while in Italy, walking the backshore, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

Accursio was a longtime member of the St. Peter’s Club.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Sanfilippo of Gloucester; three daughters, Roseann Sutera and her husband, Antonino of New Hamphire, Joanne Cromosini and her husband, Cesare, Giselle Guyotte and her husband, Jeremy, all of Gloucester; his son, Accursio R. Sanfilippo of Gloucester; nine grandchildren, Gianluca Cromosini, Kayla Cromosini, Silena Sutera, Evana Sutera, Jonathan Sutera, Anthony Sutera, Isabella Guyotte, Alessandro Guyotte and Giovanna Guyotte; two sisters, Anna Sanfilippo of Gloucester and Angela Graffeo of Everett; two brothers, Antonino “Nino” Sanfilippo and his wife, Lillian, Calogero “Charlie” Sanfilippo and his wife, Caterina, all of Gloucester; his mother-in-law, Giovanna Sclafani of Gloucester; three brothers-in-law, Gaspare Sclafani and his wife, Josephine of Everett, Frank Sclafani and his wife, Paola, Accursio “Gus” Sclafani and his wife, Julie, all of Gloucester and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families in Italy.

He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Josephine Marigotta, Flavia Bivona Sanfilippo and Calogera “Lilla” Baldasanno and a brother, Ignazio Sanfilippo.

His funeral service will be held in the Assembly of God Church, 211 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
