Andrew James's Story
Andrew James Doran, 73, of Gloucester, husband of Dr. Janet Doran, passed away in his home with his family by his side on Monday, February 27, 2017.
Andrew was born in Norfolk, England on September 28 1943, son of the late James and Peggy Doran. He spent his childhood in England before moving to Spain to work in film and finally emmigrating to America in the early 70s. He was a craftsman of wooden boats, and also had an art for making wooden instruments such as dulcimers. He was a folksinger, enjoyed art, reading, filmmaking, politics and cooking. Andrew was an ardent fan of Liverpool football club and rarely missed a match. He was an avid nature lover and birder and took time out for fishing on the ocean and lakes that he loved. He will be missed by his loving family and friends. Andrew is survived by his wife of 31 years, Janet; daughters Isla Doran of London and Iona Doran of Gloucester; a sister Rebecca Bloomfield, wife of Paul of Norfolk, England; nephew, Jaime Doran of San Diego; niece Susan Riggs and nephews Will and Saul Bloomfield of Norfolk. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Patrick Doran.
In keeping with his wishes, in place of a funeral, the family will be holding a celebration of life at the Emerson Inn in Pigeon Cove, Rockport on Friday, March 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., which all friends of Andrew are invited to attend. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to: MGH Cancer Center. Online condolences may be given at:
