Arthur J.'s Story
Arthur J. Hurlburt, 71, husband of Kathleen M. (Dexter) Hurlburt, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday morning, February 23, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Gloucester on September 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Elmer and Emily “Minnie” (Bouchie) Hurlburt. Arthur was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1963. After high school he worked as a machinist for General Electric. He later worked at the former Sylvania plant in Ipswich until its closing then for Philips Lighting as a manufacturing specialist which required him to travel to Europe and Mexico several times. Arthur also worked at Nutrimax as a foreman and was a dispatcher for CATA before retiring. In earlier years, Arthur enjoyed sailing and was always an avid reader. He enjoyed cooking and tending to his vegetable and flower garden. In addition to his wife Kathleen, he is survived by his three children, Michelle Sutera, Joy Hurlburt, both of Gloucester, Justin Hurlburt and wife Katie (Wuorie) of Maine; a close family friend, Jennifer Grace; three grandchildren, Marc and Joseph Sutera, Emily Wonkka; his sisters, June Morgan, Robin Jacobs; nieces and nephews, Denise Burns, Ralph and Mark Oliver, Kasey Van Faason, Holly (Jacobs) Green and husband Sean, Vaughan and Nicole Morgan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judith Dexter, Steve and Dawn Dexter, Alice Dexter, Tom and Susan Sullivan, Clark and Jeri Dexter, Richard and Chris Rhodes, Rebecca and Fran Aliberte and Roberta Dexter; and many, many close friends, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jane (Hurlburt) Oliver; mother and father-in-law, Eleanor and Harold Dexter; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Paul Dexter.
Arthur’s funeral services will be held privately.
