Arvilla G.'s Story
Arvilla G. (Sadler) Wass, 98, wife of the late Richard A. Wass of Rockport, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Rockport. She was born in Lynn on April 25, 1918, the daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys (Sewell) Sadler. Arvilla attended schools in Lynn and Gloucester, graduating from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1936. As a young lady she worked as a nurse’s assistant at Den Mar Nursing Home and Cape Ann Nursing Home for many years, retiring in 1980. In later years, Arvilla worked as a volunteer at Action, Inc. She was a longtime faithful member of Pigeon Cove Chapel in Rockport and member of the Agenda Club of Riverdale. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Metcalf; four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Partridge; and several nieces and nephews. Arvilla was predeceased by her husband, Richard A. Wass; her son, Roland E. Wass; and a brother, Ernest L. Sadler. She and Richard shared 69 years of marriage. Many thanks to her Den Mar caregivers and her church family for their loving kindness to her. A special thanks to her “second daughter,” Kris Carlson, for her love.
