Barbara A. (Fowler)'s Story
Barbara A. Cullen, formerly of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, in Zachary, La.
Born in Boston, Mass., on June 2, 1932, Barbara was a graduate of Gloucester High School and served in the Women’s Army Corp. in the early 1950s.
She retired as Lead Clerk of the Riverdale branch of the Gloucester Post Office after many years of service.
Barbara was an avid knitter, reader and enjoyed discussing politics and the latest news on the family.
Barbara is survived by her six children, Marla (Albert) Rapini of West Haven, Conn., Peter (Kelly) of Lynn, Mass., Paul (Celeste) of Port Allen, La., Marcie (Robert) Comeau of Peachtree City, Ga., Martha (Kevin) McCarthy of New Port Richey, Fla., and Timothy (Karen) of Braintree, Mass.
Also surviving Barbara are her 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud and loved dearly. Barbara is also survived by her niece, Alison (Gary) Cahill of Beverly, Mass.; and her nephew, John (Valerie) Mc Eachern and great-nephew of Ottawa, Canada.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary (O’Keefe) and her husband, Arthur Nickel; her father, Edwin Fowler; her sister, Lorraine McEachern and brother-in-law, John McEachern.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Zachary Manor Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, 6161 Main St., Zachary, La., for their kind and gentle care of our mother over the past 10 years; and also the staff of the St. Joseph Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Donations in Barbara’s name may be made to either facility.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Barbara’s Funeral Mass on Saturday, September 24, 2016, in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
