Barbara S. (DeAngelis)'s Story
Mrs. Barbara S. (DeAngelis) Zakas, 88, of Gloucester, passed away on unexpectedly Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Addison Gilbert Hospital. She was the wife of Retired Essex County Deputy Sheriff Angelo J. Zakas, Sgt. U.S. Army with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Barbara was born September 2, 1928 in Chelsea. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Healey) DeAngelis. She was a resident of Gloucester for most of her life and grew up in Chelsea. She was a graduate of Chelsea High School.
Barbara owned and operated three Beauty Shops the Niles Beach Beauty Shop as well as the Yee Hamlet in Hamilton and Magnolia for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed going to Florida with her husband for many years as well as having yard sales on weekends. She and Angelo enjoyed going to the Causeway Restaurant for dinner.
In addition to her husband, Angelo, Barbara is survived by two daughters, Toni Nicastro of Gloucester and Renee Gibbons of Illinois; one sister, Lillian Dixon of Chelsea as well as four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Robert DeAngelis.
Barbara’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m. Her Graveside Service will be in Calvary Cemetery immediately following visiting hours Wednesday.
