Barbara W.'s Story
Barbara W. Beyea, 96, of Rockport, Mass., widow of Benjamin Dorrance Beyea, died on August 7, 2016, at home.
Born on June 22, 1920, in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, she was educated at Dunham Ladies College, Dunham, Quebec, and McGill University, Montreal.
She and her husband owned many businesses in Salem, Gloucester, and Lawrence, Mass. Her husband predeceased her in September of 2003.
Barbara enjoyed golf and tennis and in later years turned her attention to duplicate bridge. She was a life member of the Peabody Museum of Salem, the Rockport Art Association, and the Sandy Bay Historic Society of Rockport. For all those who knew her, Barbara’s great love of animals could never be debated.
She is survived by her lifelong friend, Adah Marker of Magnolia, Mass.; by nieces, Penny Smith of San Diego, Calif., Margo McLean of New York City, Jeanne Beyea McLean of St. Louis, Mo.; nephews, Kevin McLean of Kennett Square, Pa., and Dr. Edward R. McLean, Jr. of Far Hills, N.J., Dan Hudson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Donald Hudson of Florida; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Rockport Library, Rockport, MA
Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester.
