GLOUCESTER, MA: Brian F. Coffey, 61, of West Gloucester, Mass., died of gastric cancer on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at home with his wife at his bedside.
Born in Salem, Mass., on December 20, 1953, Brian was the son of the late Edward J. Coffey and the late Rita M. (Madore) Coffey of Danvers, Mass. He grew up in Danvers and attended Colorado State University. Brian later moved to Mesa, Ariz., where he met his wife, Elizabeth (Bohlken) Coffey. They moved to Austin, Texas, then to Fort Collins, Colo., and then back to Massachusetts, settling first in Magnolia, then in West Gloucester in 1993.
Brian was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Elizabeth (Beth); son, Samuel; and daughter, Rose. He is also survived by his nephew, Ryan Spinney; mother-in-law, Karen Swaney; father-in-law, Donald Bohlken; and mother-in-law. Shelia Bohlken Pilger; as well as many cousins and well-loved friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Edward Coffey Jr.; and his sister, Sheila (Coffey) Spinney.
Brian will be remembered by friends and family as a friendly and hardworking man who loved his family and enjoyed carpentry and working on a variety of household projects.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 11 a.m., at the West Gloucester Church, 488 Essex Avenue, West Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the hospice, which made it possible for Brian to remain at home during his illness, Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers MA 01923.
