Capt. Rosario's Story
Capt. Rosario Grillo, 81, husband of Antonia (Merenda) Grillo passed away at his residence Thursday morning, April 28th surrounded by his loving family following a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Castel di Tusa, Sicily, Italy on September 22, 1934 son of the late Raffaele and Maria (Piscitello) Grillo.
Rosario began fishing at the age of 16 and continued fishing until he retired.
He met the love of his life, Antonia Merenda in Castel di Tusa in 1961. They have been a team since then.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife to the islands, all over Europe and going on cruises.
Even in his later years, he enjoyed fishing on his pleasure boat and could be constantly found on the State Fish Pier.
Rosario was an extremely hard working Captain and fisherman but was most proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. During his illness he occupied his time on the internet and became quite a computer wiz.
He had so many friends all over the world. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Antonia Grillo; his daughters, Maria Grillo and her husband, Maurizio and Angela Cromosini and her husband, Giuseppe; grandchildren, Dominique Biliato and her husband, Paolo Fornara, Bryan Biliato, Joseph Cromosini and Jessica Cromosini; sisters, Antonia Faranna and her husband, Giuseppe, Maria Teresa Mortillaro and husband, Gino and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his infant brother.
His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
