Text size

Captain Robert "Bobby" Sulton (Hector) of Tequesta, Florida, passed away after a lengthy battle with kidney disease on September 23, 2017, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida with his wife, Marianne, and best friend, Donald Gemmell, by his side. He was born in Beverly, Mass., on November 21, 1952, son of the late John Sulton and Ada (O'Neil) Sulton. Throughout his younger years Bobby developed a love of the ocean and boats, working his first job at Bickford Marine at Rocky Neck. After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1972, he went on to get his Captain's license and became an avid yacht and sport fishing captain. Among the many boats he captained were the Wanderer, Mary Carmen and Kimberly out of Gloucester, and the Croupier out of Virginia Beach. He traveled with these boats and others throughout the United States, Bahamas, Mexico, Panama Canal and Cuba. Bobby loved returning to visit his native Gloucester in the summer months, where he enjoyed visiting with family, especially his step-granddaughters. The Bobalu will be remembered as a kind and generous man, who made everyone around him laugh with his funny stories and infectious humor. He will be missed by the many friends and family members he leaves behind.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Marianne Grace (Parisi) Sulton of Tequesta, Florida; his brother, Jack Sulton and wife, Jenny of Rockport; his two nephews, John Sulton and Steven Sulton; and two step-granddaughters, Molly Saorise Murphy and Lily Emerson; and stepson, Nathan Murphy of Salem, Mass.
His visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Friday, September 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Saturday, September 30, at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
